Join me as we talk to other busy moms and experts who will share tips and strategies to help you reach your goals.

00:00:34.387 --> 00:00:37.209
Hope you enjoy this episode of Organized Chaos.

00:00:37.209 --> 00:00:38.765
Now on to the show.

00:00:38.765 --> 00:00:47.514
Now, before I start something new, I will ask myself this question, and that is am I willing to do this for six months?

00:00:47.514 --> 00:00:55.450
The reason I asked myself this question now is because I was a constant quitter and I wouldn't give things a fighting chance.

00:00:55.450 --> 00:00:59.511
I would quit before I would really give it my all.

00:00:59.511 --> 00:01:01.987
And sometimes I wouldn't give it my all.

00:01:01.987 --> 00:01:07.972
I would just dip my toe in not do it for too long and then say to myself well, that didn't work.

00:01:07.972 --> 00:01:21.227
And I got to give my husband credit for this one, because he was the one that posed this question to me, because he was constantly hearing me complain about certain things and he asked me this question.

00:01:21.227 --> 00:01:34.081
He said when you do something, give yourself, or give it six months and then after the six months, if you gave it a shot and it didn't work, then move on to something else.

00:01:34.081 --> 00:01:38.352
So this has a lot to do with business related stuff.

00:01:38.352 --> 00:02:02.243
So if you have maybe a business idea, or if you have an idea within your business, something new that you want to try, or even a course you want to take, this is for you and I will give you some of my tips that'll help you stay the course and actually find out if it's going to work out and not quit before a breakthrough.

00:02:02.243 --> 00:02:08.824
So one of the most important things to set is what's going to determine whether you should continue.

00:02:08.824 --> 00:02:20.204
So this is going to be what type of metrics or what are you going to measure your progress on, so that way you know, when you get to a certain point, whether this is working for you or not.

00:02:20.204 --> 00:02:29.865
So having that clarity is going to give you the ability to decide whether to make adjustments, a pivot, or to continue.

00:02:30.687 --> 00:02:49.548
I think sometimes we will look at progress in a very linear way, where we see it as kind of like an upward curve, and then also sometimes we'll just look at one metric to determine whether we should keep doing something or stop, and it just doesn't work that way.

00:02:49.548 --> 00:02:55.693
First off, success does not look like an upward curve or like a straight line up.

00:02:55.693 --> 00:02:59.090
It's up and down and all different directions.

00:02:59.090 --> 00:03:02.971
So definitely not the way to kind of set yourself up.

00:03:02.971 --> 00:03:05.939
But also, you want to have a set of metrics.

00:03:05.939 --> 00:03:11.491
You don't want to have just one metric like, for example, an income metric.

00:03:11.491 --> 00:03:28.275
There could be a lot of different things that are going well in that idea or that course or whatever it is that you're doing, and you won't see that because you're so focused on that one metric, which may improve later on.

00:03:28.275 --> 00:03:38.060
But there's all these other changes that are happening, all the great things that are happening that you won't necessarily see because you're so focused on that one metric.

00:03:38.060 --> 00:03:54.710
So my point is to have some clarity at the very beginning and really determine what it is that you're going to be looking at, what set of metrics you're going to be looking at that are going to determine whether or not you know this is the right path for you or maybe you need to do something else.

00:03:55.230 --> 00:03:58.406
Now my next tip is to commit right.

00:03:58.406 --> 00:04:02.800
I mean the title of this podcast is are you willing to do this for six months.

00:04:02.800 --> 00:04:08.368
So committing to six months or a year, I mean you determine the timeframe.

00:04:08.368 --> 00:04:13.123
I mean one of my mentors, josh Coates, who I've had on the show before.

00:04:13.123 --> 00:04:16.891
He gave himself five years Now.

00:04:16.891 --> 00:04:21.620
He went from detailing cars to life coaching, which is a really big jump.

00:04:21.620 --> 00:04:23.543
But he did.

00:04:23.543 --> 00:04:39.617
He gave himself five years, he went to work, he put in the work, he learned the concepts of life coaching and he went from really struggling to provide for his family, his four kids to now having a multimillion dollar business.

00:04:39.617 --> 00:04:46.720
Now, of course, the bigger the change that you want to make, the longer the timeframe you have to give yourself.

00:04:46.720 --> 00:04:56.545
But that's just a great example of really committing to something and going all in and having clarity on exactly what you want.

00:04:56.545 --> 00:04:59.656
Now I'll give you a different example, a personal example.

00:04:59.817 --> 00:05:04.718
So when I decided I wanted to create this podcast, I gave myself a year.

00:05:04.718 --> 00:05:06.605
Now there are things that I can look at.

00:05:06.605 --> 00:05:11.216
It's like a dashboard of how well the podcast is doing.

00:05:11.216 --> 00:05:13.983
So that was one of the things that I wanted to see.

00:05:13.983 --> 00:05:18.161
Right, I didn't want to create this podcast so I could just sit there and nobody listened to it.

00:05:18.161 --> 00:05:23.483
Of course, I wanted it to grow and I wanted to increase the downloads and all of that stuff.

00:05:23.483 --> 00:05:28.689
So that's like a dashboard that I can see physically how well the podcast is doing.

00:05:28.689 --> 00:05:34.043
But I also wanted to see for myself if this was something that was going to be long-term.

00:05:34.771 --> 00:05:38.922
So I had to gauge whether I could keep this up.

00:05:38.922 --> 00:05:45.517
I didn't want this to be something that was going to take up too much of my time and I also wanted to enjoy it.

00:05:45.517 --> 00:05:52.730
I wanted to enjoy recording, I wanted to, you know, enjoy the interviews that I was having with people.

00:05:52.730 --> 00:05:56.420
So really, you know, vetting the guests that were going to come on to the show.

00:05:56.420 --> 00:06:16.482
The podcast is growing, not in all different areas, but in some areas it is, and I do enjoy it and I can keep this up because I've been able to organize my time so that this is something that doesn't take up a lot of time and I just enjoy it overall.

00:06:16.482 --> 00:06:18.617
So I'm going to keep doing it.

00:06:18.617 --> 00:06:39.482
So I hope you enjoy these episodes and enjoy this podcast overall, because I really do enjoy it and I didn't realize that this was going to be something that I really look forward to doing every week, but I still gave myself that timeframe so I can evaluate whether or not I wanted to continue.

00:06:40.069 --> 00:06:41.958
So you know, it could have looked a lot different.

00:06:41.958 --> 00:06:54.557
It could have been that, you know, I didn't enjoy it, or I just I couldn't keep up with it, or it was becoming more of a hassle, or, you know, I couldn't find people to interview, or I just couldn't come up with topics.

00:06:54.557 --> 00:06:58.000
I mean, it could have looked so much different, but it didn't.

00:06:58.000 --> 00:06:59.516
I mean, it worked out.

00:06:59.516 --> 00:07:05.382
And even if it didn't work out and I, you know, moved on to something else, that would have been okay as well.

00:07:06.343 --> 00:07:08.096
Okay, so now recap of what we talked about.

00:07:08.096 --> 00:07:21.862
So these two tips for one, have clarity and determine what you're going to use to measure your progress and then, most importantly, go all in for the timeframe that you decide on.

00:07:21.862 --> 00:07:24.718
Stop dipping your toe in things.

00:07:24.718 --> 00:07:31.461
I mean, you won't know whether something works out for you if you don't give it enough time.

00:07:31.461 --> 00:07:37.394
All right, so I hope that was helpful and I hope you have an amazing day and I will see you next week.

00:07:37.394 --> 00:07:49.485
